Associate Professor: FURUKAWA (SAKAI). Katsuko

Research field
・Regenerative Medicine
・Artificial Organs
・Cell-Biomechanics

Message
Furukawa Laboratory welcomes people with a wide range of backgrounds including undergraduate students, graduate students, working people and international students. We also welcome people who have left academia or industry temporary but still have the enthusiasm for academic research. Let’s enjoy cutting-edge research together! We are trying to establish technologies for regenerating living tissues in vitro, synthesizing mechanical engineering. Additionally, we are also trying to elucidate unknown mechanism how living cells sense physical stimulations such as tensile stress, shear stress and hydrostatic pressure at molecular levels.

Researches
1. Regenerative engineering of vascular blood vessel and cartilage tissue under mechanical stress
2. 3D organ design with/without scaffolds
3. Rapid prototyping technology for 3D scaffold design
4. Phenotypic controls of stem cells by mechanical stress loading
5. Design for mechanical stress loading device
6. Real-time imaging of blood vessels under physiolosical stimulations
